ENGEL by Marta & Kim
July 2023 (DK/CZ)
Role Replacement for Marta Alstadsæter
What is consciousness? When a thought comes to mind, where does it come from? We have many ways of sensing the world around us. Still we find it hard to deal with the things we cannot capture in words. Perhaps fearing the chaos of the incomprehensible.
Circus artist Marta Alstadsæter and dancer Kim-Jomi Fischer meet between their genres in a physical duet about this continuous inner struggle. Proposing to face questions without giving answers, they invite you to make peace with the things that are hard to explain. And to embrace the many sides of being human.

ELECTIVE AFFINITIES by Emma Laule
November - December 2022 (DE)
How does a stone experience the world?
And what happens when we extend the principle of care far beyond the boundaries of the nuclear family, beyond species and into something seemingly inanimate, such as a stone? With the help of contemporary circus and sound experiments, the two different worlds are juxtaposed.
Between human and stone bonds are built and dependencies are created. An attempt at a rapprochement.
In a research and creation process of 8 weeks, have been exploring the world of hard rocks and heavy metal, the main components of our mobilé of suspended rocks. We are discovering how such rough and hard objects can become soft and powerfully gentle.
This first w.i.p. showing will be a journey through different scenarios where the human and non-human bodies enter in dialogue, diving deep into each other's qualities and storytelling potentials.

CATCH & FALL - Bauhaus Festival
3 - 4 September 2021, Bauhaus Dessau (DE)
Four artists, each in her own world, on balconies, on a rope, on concrete – and yet very close to each other. The performance "Catch & Fall" at and in the Prellerhaus searches for proximity between dance, artistry and song – embedded and framed by projections that make walls pulsate and tiles dance. "A performance that looks for touch, builds connections, takes the fall into account and finds a closeness that can be lived at a distance."
This cross-disciplinary project combines the creative ideas of rope artist Ana Jordão, juggler Silke Schirok, the company wonder & me (Caroline Wunderlich singing/composition; Katharina Wunderlich dance/choreography) and director and choreographer Lars Scheibner and PMD-ART (Marcus Doering, André Bernhardt – resonant projections & videography).

FLEXIBILITY, AESTHETICS AND FREEDOM IN CONTEMPORARY CIRCUS - Artist Talk in the Performing Arts Festival
28 May 2021, Performing Arts Festival Berlin (DE)
Flexibility and innovation are well known as basic characteristics of the circus. With touring circuses, a spacial flexibility was essential while a high level of technical requirements are closely connected with constant innovation. The field of contemporary circus transfers this flexibility to its aesthetic. The dissolving of the boundaries between genres and a critical handling of a societal discourses are carried out using artistic means. The practices of the independent performing arts become especially clear, urgent and critical from the perspective of contemporary circus.
In conversation with Romy Seibt (DE) and För Künkel (DE), about aesthetic freedoms and the potential contemporary circus to negotiate social issues in its own way.

COLLECTIVE IMPROVISATION IN CIRCUS AND MUSIC - Course by Marie-Andree Robitaille and Klas Nevrin
9 - 27 November 2020, Stockholm University of the Arts (SE)
This course was an opportunity to explore methods that frame and nourish interactivity and playful interdisciplinary experimentations between circus and music. Observing aspects such as choreography, composition, music theory, circus theory and philosophy both theoretically and in practice. Through the concept of creative disorder we explored and reflected on improvisation as a method for composition, choreography and performance, while at the same time focusing on the socio-political aspects of collective creativity, dialogical interaction and empowerment: synergy, non-linearity and self-organization.

ON THE BRINK & CHAMBER SUITES - Bauhaus Festival
13 - 14 September 2019, Dessau (DE)
The facade of the emblematic Prellerhaus is the background for the performance of "on the brink". The collaboration between director duo Ahlers-Patschovsky and video artist Philipp Geist has resulted in a composition of air acrobatics, juggling, object manipulation, video projections and architecture, an epic visual celebration embedded in the hundredth year anniversary of the Bauhaus Dessau.
The balcony façade is on the threshold of input and output and stands as an iconographic motif for the fusion of individual and community, of artist and Bauhaus, of man and architecture. What shines into the Bauhaus, what shines out?
Circus performers open up spaces between materiality and immateriality, mind and body, illusion and virtuosity. The audience is also invited to the Prellerhaus and can immerse themselves in bizarre room performances in "Chamber Suites".
Directed by: Cox Ahlers and Jenny Patschovsky

CHINA SERIES #4 - By Julian Vogel
14 - 15 May 2019, Imaginarius Creation Center - Santa Maria da Feira (PT)
China Series is an assemblage of performances, sculptures and publications around the Diabolo - a circus object in its origin but here it is made out of ceramic and porcelain, creating an aesthetic world which revolves around the fragility of the material.
In China Series Variation #4 I am invited to collaborate with the author to explore the manipulation of body and object: "from a clear form to few unpredictably shaped pieces, from a pile of small pieces to several forms, and from danger into an aesthetic."

LE PROJET F - COMPAGNIE.SH
3 - 7 April, 14 - 16 April, 6 June 2019, Switzerland (CH)
With Projet F, director Stefan Hort questions the place of fragility in our time. We constantly talk about strength, efficiency and performance, yet, on closer inspection, fragility allows human beings to discover and transform themselves.
Le Projet F is a contemporary circus show that explores the boundaries of several circus disciplines. By combining acrobatic prowess with theatre and music, it revisits one of the fundamental pillars of circus: risk-taking. In a refined and performative way, it questions and explores "the fall" as inherent aspect of this risk.
Directed by: Stefan Hort
With Ana Jordão, Julian Vogel, Joachim Ciocca, Pierre-Isaïe Duc, Thierry Epiney.

7, 15, 16, 22, 23 June 2018, St. Annen Museum, Lübeck (DE)

"Form follows function". A series of site specific performative installations exploring 'substance' brought the Bauhaus to life. Transparency and simplicity of architecture and design as sources of inspiration and playfulness. It was a great reminder that we can be inspired by the smallest things, that the substance of every object or creature that surrounds us can inspire us to feel, to move, to expand and to create...

MURMURS OF AN AUTUMN LEAF by Ana Jordão and Sophie Adelt
7 - 9 November 2016, Toihaus Theater, Salzburg (AT)
"There is a gathering in the forest. the leaves have refused to change, they say that they are tired of things never remaining the same, of dying to be reborn, of winter's dry withered hand. they are praying for an eternal spring. even i expected that the beautiful autumn must have been ecstasy for the leaves. but they admit that there is nothing more painful than changing from green to yellow, to red, to brown. they insist that their beauty is a prolonged suffering. they say they will never change again."
Saul Williams
A reflection on the seasons of the mind, the cycles of life, our patterns of movement, and the question of how behavior patterns often stand in the way of evolution.
A collaboration between Ana Jordão and Anna Masala, performed in the context of Circus Tracks #1 - Meeting the Unknown: Four contemporary circus artists and four Salzburg musicians meet for the first time face to face. They exchange their material and experiment with it. In just 48 hours they develop four duo performances that explore the connection between music, circus, movement, circus objects and musical instrument.
With: Ana Jordão, Oriol Escursell Domenech, Vitus Denifl, Sophie Adelt, Rosalie Schneitler, Stefan Ebner, Florinda Fürst.
Outside Eye: Anna Sandreuter

RETREAT AND REWIND Video Experiment with Movement
January 2016, Lisbon (PT)
One morning after a sleepless night, overwhelmed by an urge to move yet unaware of how long it would take before I collapsed in exhaustion, I asked the floor to catch me if I fall...
“At the end of my dream, Eve put the apple back on the branch. The tree went back into the ground. It became a sapling, which became a seed.”

CONTACT IMPROVISATION AND SELF OBSERVATION, Research in Artistic Practice Programme
11 to 19 March 2015, Godsbanen, Århus (DK)
This experiment was conceived and conducted by Ana Jordão (PT) and Xiri Tara Noir (DK) and is an exploration of the way in which contact improvisation mirrors the way we relate to each other; it is part of an ongoing experimentation about how to build a bridge between the vocabulary of physicality and the observation of the tendencies we encounter in our relationships with other human beings.
As a result of this experiment, I published an article entitled "Embodied Mind in Motion" in Contact Quarterly - dance and improvisation journal.
More details about the experiment / conference / RAPP here.

TEACHING AT THE PALESTINIAN CIRCUS SCHOOL
December 2011 - January 2012
I first came to the Palestinian Circus School as a volunteer, mostly unaware of the intensity of what I was going to be exposed to. There I found people full of great energy, an endless creative potential, and a kind generosity that invited me to return. To listen and experience life inside the wall - under occupation. Later I came back to work as a teacher (in the social circus school in Birzeit but also in Hebron, Jenin, Al Far'a refugee camp, Bethlehem, etc) which originated a whole set of observations concerning the state of the physical body as consequence of "resistance" and "occupation", and how the religious, political and social conflicts were reflected in the way people engage in physical contact. This was the origin of my research "contact improvisation and self observation".

ANA & SAMUEL HAND TO HAND DUO
2009 - 2012
There was a mutual understanding and a shared desire to learn, to explore a working partnership. Together we explored the building blocks of hand to hand technique, and quickly started to experiment with bringing in more dynamic a 'release' aspects from dance and contact improvisation to enrich our technique and bring a new dimension into our hand to hand practice. Our technical training as done mostly with Viktor Renpenning, and Pascal Angelier (Lido). We also worked very closely with Julia Christ in terms of artistic research.
